THE Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) says licensing compliance rates have reached a whopping 70% on the back of a strong commitment to implement both Parliament and government’s decisions.
Speaking before the parliamentary portfolio committees, ZINARA CEO, Nkosinathi Ncube said compliance levels have surged significantly.
“As of December last year, 70% of vehicle owners were paying for listener’s licenses. That takes us to a figure, which is above 800,000. So, currently they come to ZINARA or through various agents and they pay for their vehicle license; 823 000 that’s the figure that we had in December,” he said.
Official records show that the roads administrator is targeting to license over one million vehicles this year in line with the aggressive turnaround strategy, which has seen the organ steadily nurturing a record of efficiency over the recent years.
“It’s important for us to underline that we support Government decisions, parliamentary decisions and the progress that it brings to the nation. So, we’re always there to support. And as Government agents, we make sure that we fully implement that which the Government will then put through and which is good for the country,” he said.
He however said there was urgent need to ensure that once the Broadcasting Services Bill is passed, the new requirement would not negatively impact Zinara’s mandate to collect money for roads construction and maintenance.
The Bill intends to make it mandatory for motorists to first pay for ZBC licensing fees before paying the road license fees.
In 2024 alone, the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) won about four awards at the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe’s (MAZ) National Exceptional Marketing Awards, testifying the impact of the entity’s turnaround strategy.
