FORMER Zengeza West legislator ,Job Sikhala appeared in Court 9 Monday with his lawyers and the state’s making their submissions during mitigation.
The matter shall be ruled tomorrow after the magistrate passed that she will grant a ruling tomorrow, Tuesday 30 January at 1415 hrs in COURT 9.
Last week, Harare Magistrate Tafadzwa Miti ruled in favor of conviction. He was jointly charged with CCC MP Godfrey Sithole who was also convicted.
Sikhala has been in detention since his arrest in June 2022 accused of mobilising opposition supporters to riot and avenge the death of murdered Citizens Coalition for Change activist, Moreblessing Ali.
The former legislator has had his appeals to be released on bail turned down countless times, with the courts describing him as an unrepentant repeat offender capable of committing more crime.
Meanwhile, Police in Masvingo have blocked a solidarity rally for incarcerated former opposition legislator Job Sikhala slated for today at Mucheke Hall, Masvingo.
The gathering was aimed to put pressure on the government to release Sikhala, who has been in remand prison since June 2022 and has since been convicted of inciting public violence.
In a letter dated January 23, addressed to the event organiser Obert Masaraure, officer commanding Masvingo Central district one Chief Superintendent S Dube said the planned rally is a security threat as it did not comply with the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (Mopa) provisions.
