Crisis at Scot Sakupwanya’s Redwing Mine , no respite for the trapped people

A complicated crisis is ensuing at Mabvuku-Tafara legislator’s Redwing Mine where the trapped 11 people may not be rescued anytime soon.
The miners are feared dead following a mineshaft collapse at Redwing Mine in Penhalonga, Manicaland province, early Thursday morning.
The mine is owned by Zanu PF Mabvuku-Tafara legislator Pedzisayi Scott Sakupwanya.
An official statement released by the MInes and Mining Development Minister ,Soda Zhemu hopes to retrieve the missing persons anytime soon were shattered.
He said the assigned Rescue team of Metallon Gold at Redwing Mine together with Inspectors from the Provincial Office went underground around 0900am attempting to rescue and had to retreat after noticing the ground still carving in.
“The team tried again around 1200hrs and noticed that the ground had collapsed more.The ground is still curving in. It appears like the miners had mined out support pillars,” Zhemu said.
He also revealed that rescue attempts efforts will only resume Friday.
Zhemu also claimed that the shaft that collapsed was under some individuals and the people trapped were workers of the tribute.
“Management of tributed areas falls under the Principal owner, Metallon Gold in this case. Therefore, The Rescue team from Metallon has been leading in the rescue effort supported by Ministry of Mines and other stakeholders including ZRP and Civil Protection Unit,” he said.
He said Metallon as a company has indicated that it has sufficient capacity to carry out the rescue mission.
