By Agencies

Questions and grief have gripped the city following the tragic death of a woman, identified as Ruth Ngwenya, who was found dead on Saturday afternoon at a bed-and-breakfast (BnB) facility in the upscale suburb of Rhodene.

The grim discovery follows allegations of a violent domestic dispute between Ms. Ngwenya and her husband, casting a harsh spotlight on the rising toll of domestic violence and the urgent need for early intervention in abusive relationships.

According to preliminary accounts from sources close to the matter, tensions boiled over on Friday morning following an alleged confrontation over infidelity. Sources claim that the dispute escalated rapidly, resulting in a violent altercation in which Ms. Ngwenya was allegedly assaulted in front of neighbours and subjected to death threats.

Following the confrontation, Ms. Ngwenya reportedly fled the matrimonial home seeking safety and accommodation at a Rhodene BnB. Tragically, by Saturday afternoon, she was discovered dead under circumstances that remain shrouded in mystery.

Authorities have urged caution as investigations unfold. When contacted for comment by The Midweek Watch, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo provincial spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa stated that he had not yet received an official report regarding the incident. Consequently, official confirmation from law enforcement, the exact cause of death, and whether any arrests have been made remain pending.

The unfolding tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting renewed calls from gender advocates and local residents for robust support structures, safe shelters, and immediate reporting mechanisms for victims facing domestic abuse and threats of violence.

As police continue their inquiries to piece together the final hours of Ms. Ngwenya’s life, family members, friends, and the broader community await formal police findings to bring clarity and accountability to the distressing event.
