Political leader Nelson Chamisa has delivered a stinging critique of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration, describing it as an embarrassing government whose complete failure to establish proper structural safety measures is plunging the nation into relentless, preventable tragedy.
Chamisa’s fierce intervention comes in the wake of a horrific trail of national disasters—including the devastating crash in Chivhu, the boat tragedy in Lake Kariba, and the state-backed demolition of citizen homes and business properties. According to Chamisa, these recurring nightmares are not mere accidents, but the direct product of a chaotic, incompetent governance system that refuses to put structural protections in place for its people.
In an uncompromising public address, Chamisa challenged the moral standing of the Mnangagwa administration, arguing that an embarrassing lack of foresight and structural planning continues to cost human lives.
“ARE WE NOT ASHAMED? DO WE NOT CARE? I am deeply saddened by the disaster in Chivhu. Last week, Kariba. Then the government-backed demolition of homes and buildings belonging to innocent citizens,” Chamisa stated. “Almost every week, Zimbabweans are confronted by preventable tragedy and suffering. These are not statistics. These are our people. Our families. Our citizens.”
Highlighting the structural rot under Mnangagwa’s leadership, Chamisa emphasized that basic regulatory enforcement—such as highway safety monitoring, maritime transport inspection, and lawful urban planning—is completely absent. Instead of creating sustainable frameworks to prevent loss of life and shelter, the government’s response has been marked by apathy and reactive posturing.
Calling out the regime’s embarrassing lack of accountability, Chamisa addressed the ruling political elite directly:
“To those at the political helm: Does this not concern you? Where is the urgency? Where is the accountability? Where is the leadership? Where is the compassion for We, the Citizens?”
Chamisa argued that the current state of affairs is a shameful reflection of a political system that has completely abandoned its primary mandate—protecting human dignity. By repeatedly failing to implement proper disaster mitigation, infrastructure maintenance, or humane housing policies, the administration has shown a humiliating level of structural incompetence.
Demanding an immediate end to the normalization of government-induced hardship, Chamisa insisted that Zimbabweans deserve a structural overhaul that centers on the welfare of the populace rather than political self-preservation
