ZRP nabs businessman for producing firearm at Eaglesvale Rugby Tourney

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old Bulawayo businessman in connection with a firearm and assault incident that occurred during a rugby match between Eaglesvale College and Christian Brothers College (CBC) in Harare.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the police identified the suspect as Lotshe Yuri Rodgers Mangena, who was arrested on charges of assault and pointing a firearm following the incident which took place at Eaglesvale College on June 13, 2026.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Lotshe Yuri Rodgers Mangena (50) for assault and pointing a firearm. The suspect has since appeared before Harare Magistrates Court,” said the police.
The incident reportedly occurred during a rugby fixture involving the two schools, sparking concern among parents, learners and members of the public after reports of a firearm being brandished at the sporting event surfaced on social media.
Police said investigations were conducted following the incident, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Meanwhile, authorities have since recovered and seized the firearm that was allegedly used during the incident.
“The ZRP has since seized the firearm from the suspect,” the police added.
The matter is now before the courts, with police indicating that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
