Renowned author and playwright Raisedon Baya, in collaboration with the Bulawayo Book Club, has organised a discussion and critique session on South Africa-based Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi’s acclaimed novel, The Polygamist.

The event will take place on June 20 at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, Room 12, from 2pm to 5pm. Book lovers, literary enthusiasts, and members of the public are invited to attend.
The discussion has been inspired by Netflix’s adaptation of Nyathi’s novel into the trending drama series The Polygamist.

Nyathi first published The Polygamist in 2012. In 2026, Netflix commissioned Stained Glass to produce a 22-episode television adaptation based on the novel.

The story follows Jonasi Gomora, a self-made CEO who has built a successful business empire while maintaining a complex network of relationships involving multiple wives, mistresses, and long-buried family secrets.

As his private life spirals out of control, the women around him begin confronting his deception, infidelity, and abuse of power. What starts as a marital crisis soon evolves into a gripping family saga marked by betrayal, revenge, ambition, and emotional turmoil.

A central storyline focuses on Joyce Gomora, whose world is shattered when Jonasi leaves her for another woman and seeks a divorce. The fallout from their separation drives much of the drama throughout the series.

The main cast features Gugu Gumede as Joyce Gomora, Sdumo Mtshali as Jonasi Gomora, and Kwanele Mthethwa as Matipa Nkosi.

Other notable cast members include Kenneth Nkosi, Celeste Ntuli, S’thandiwe Kgoroge, Luyanda Zwane, Wonder Ndlovu, Noluthando Shabalala, Vuyo Biyela, and Lwazie Keith Tsebesha.

The series also stars Sophie Ndaba, Farieda Metsileng, Kabomo Vilakazi, Thuli Thabethe, and Meshack Mavuso Magabane.

Executive producers Gugu Zuma-Ncube, Thuli Zuma, and Pepsi Pokane oversaw the overall creative and production direction of the series, while directing duties shared by Akin Omotoso, Rolie Nikiwe, and Nthabi Tau.
