Zim Govt moves to replace striking teachers

ZIMBABWE’s government Wednesday moved to replace striking teachers posts maintaining that they can no longer go beyond new salary offers.

Under the current arrangements, government agreed to pay a US$100 monthly  salary backdated to January on top of the current US$75 and the Zim$ portion.

Teachers have remained defiant arguing the offer is far below the current poverty datum lines.

In a fresh move, widely indicating the narrowing down of labour rights space in Zimbabwe, the Public Service Commission proceeded to flight vacant posts.

The advert invited all unemployed teachers, university and college graduates in the sciences , engineering ,technical ,vocational areas and other disciplines who ae interested in joining the teaching profession to e register at the nearest district education offices.

The notice said the recruitment process shall begin soon after the 22nd of February 2022.

Those deemed to have resigned shall not be eligible for this recruitment.

“Government has taken its position that it will now work with those who demonstrate their right commitment by performing their duties at all times to serve the nation.

“Interms of Section 75 subsection 4 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe , concerning the right to education , the government of Zimbabwe has already taken reasonable legislative and other measures, within the limits of the resources available to it ,to achieve the progressive realization of the right to education,” PSC added.
