The officer commanding Beitbridge Police District Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube confirmed the arrest.

“I have just heard he was arrested but I am not in the office,” Ncube told a local publication.
According to initial reports, Chatunga arrived at the roadblock around 0600hrs being chauffeured by a Chinese driver but grew impatient when police requested for vehicle documents.

“He started shouting at the police saying you are delaying us, do you know who I am? He then angrily and violently grabbed a Support Unit officer by the collar and tore off his shirt buttons in the process,” a source was quoted saying.

Accused person is alleged to have produced a knife but was subdued and arrested by police who dragged him to Beitbridge Rural Police Station.

Chatunga is a controversial character, who was recently named as the mastermind of a massive money laundering syndicate though which he could have gained R10million, just before his father was ousted in a coup in 2017.
