Police blocks CCC Epworth rally

By Staff Writer

ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) has blocked the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally slated for Thursday claiming that there is a serious shortage of manpower to handle the event.

In a response to the CCC party Officer Commanding Harare East District, Superintendent, C Muzivi acknowledged receipt of the letter dated March 21 2022 notifying the department of the intention to hold a Public Political gathering at Olympic Stadium in Epworth.

The event is slated for the 24th of March 2022 from 11 am to 4pm.

“However, your meeting has not been sanctioned for security reasons. We have no adequate manpower to cover the meeting. Our manpower has already been deployed to various polling stations in preparation for the by-elections slated for Saturday March 26 2022,” said the police boss.

The response sustains a pattern which has seen the ZRP blocking several rallies intended to be convened by CCC.

Recently, the CCC rally which was slated for Marondera was blocked despite the opposition party being armed with a court order to proceed.

On Sunday, the opposition party’s rally was blocked again only to be held after the Masvingo High Court issued an order on the last minute.

Media reports this week indicated that President Emmerson Mnangagwa grilled ZRP’s Commissioner General, Godwin Matanga over the continued denial to sanction CCC rallies saying it was unnecessarily tarnishing the country’s image abroad.

Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga reportedly echoed similar sentiments while addressing the party’s supporters in Mutare as he maintained a distance from the bans.

However, the continued bans on the CCC party’s gatherings continues to raise many questions in the political circles with many concluding that the ZRP is acting on clear instructions. Also read; https://humanitarianpost.co.zw/breaking-high-court-okays-ccc-masvingo-rally/
