Joshua Maponga warns VP Chiwenga over factional wars

By Staff Reporter

Pan-Africanist philosopher Joshua Maponga has written an open letter to VP Constantino Chiwenga, warning him against acting as a dissenting voice within ZANU-PF while serving as the country’s second-in-command.

In the letter, “The Vice President Mukanya: On the Dynamics of Power,” Maponga argues Chiwenga “cannot afford the contradiction of trailing opposition rhetoric while wearing the scarf of the ruling party,” stressing that as VP he is a principal actor not an observer with the State, Party and Parliament apparatus at his disposal to counsel, reform and direct.

Maponga flags a “volatile narrative” on digital platforms framing a power struggle between Chiwenga and President Mnangagwa, including rumours of a private pre-election pact to oust the President. He notes the only public reality is that one emerged as Head of State, and citizens know who holds absolute executive authority.

Invoking the primary law of power, Maponga warns: “You cannot challenge executive power with raw power.
