HARARE – A self-styled prophet who allegedly leaked an audio message sent to him by the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo, in which the tenderpreneur discussed performing rituals to become rich, has been arrested.
David Gozho, known as Madzibaba David, was arrested in Goromonzi on Sunday accused of armed robbery after an EcoCash agent lost US$12,000, law enforcement sources said.
Gozho is expected to appear before a regional court in Marondera on Monday.
Chivayo, who died in a helicopter crash in Marondera last Wednesday, was heard in the viral recording thanking Madzibaba David for giving him lucky charms which he said helped him worm his way into President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s good graces.
Chivayo was also heard promising the Johane Masowe eChishanu preacher a vehicle once the money started rolling in. He later delivered a brand new Toyota Fortuner and a bus to him.
In the recording, Chivayo checks on Madzibaba David’s availability to perform what he describes as one final ritual at Lake Kariba, involving lowering a clay pot containing ritual objects into the depths of the lake.
The recording, whose authenticity has been established, sparked widespread discussion on social media following Chivayo’s death.
The timing of Gozho’s arrest will inevitably be linked to his dealings with Chivayo, who was connected to Zimbabwe’s rich and powerful
