Chamisa escalates ZEC fight

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa says opposition party sympathisers who have infiltrated government departments exposed the manipulation of the voters roll by the Zimbabwe Elections Commission (ZEC).
The remarks come at a time when the tip off unearthed the transfer of over 170 000 voters from their constituencies among other illicit acts , a move experts have warned could be used to create ghost voters who may be involved in multiple voting.
Addressing a bumper crowd at Zimbabwe Grounds Sunday, Chamisa said his party had managed to infiltrate government systems, promising a showdown if the anomalies are not addressed.

“We have infiltrators in government departments — we have infiltrated all government departments. I had been tipped off by some senior government officials that the document was being tampered with,” he said.
He vowed that ZEC will not get away with manipulation this time around unless it addresses these anomalies .
“It will not be well. There will be instability in the country. On the issue of voter manipulation, do not panic. We have strategies.
The popular leader said the first strategy will be to ensure that ZEC policies are compatible with the Constitution.
“If they don’t heed our demands, then we will take legal remedies. But we know that the courts may not be able to deliver justice fairly. We have our own solution. We will go to the streets. We will protest against ZEC,” he said.
The opposition party has soon tasked a team of experts to scrutinize the voter’s roll.

Some political actors suspect the move could be a ploy to displace the opposition’s voters from their strongholds.
ZEC’s credibility and business conduct since the turn of the millennium has been in doubt and in 2018 international elections observer missions criticized the organ for falling far short of meeting acceptable global standards.
