HEALTH Minister Obadiah Moyo was arrested Friday and locked up at Rhodesville Police Station in connection with a scandal involving the illegal awarding of a tender to Drax International.
Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission spokesperson, John Makamure confirmed the development Friday saying he would not shed more light on the matter.
“I can confirm that Minister Moyo has been arrested and is currently in police custody.That’s all I can say for now,” he said.
The top government official has been under fire over the last two weeks after revelations that he played a key role in awarding a tender for the supply of Covid19 equipment to a company known as Drax International at inflated prices.
The scandal has since earned the title Covidgate in public circles.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son ,Collins has also been fingered as an associate of the company igniting public debate as to why the arrests are sidelining the first family.
