Mutapa Fund inspires another first as US$5,4 mln Homelink Heights Project is unveiled

The Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF) continues to break new ground, unveiling the US$5.4 million Homelink Heights, a state-of-the-art 78-unit gated apartment complex in Harare.

This marks another major milestone as MIF streamlines its housing and infrastructure objectives through a dedicated Real Estate cluster tasked with revitalizing various State Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

The MIF organizes its portfolio into six clusters: Mining Resources, Energy and Trading, ICT, Transport and Logistics, Agriculture and Industrials, Track Investments, Financial Services, and Real Estate.

At the commissioning ceremony, inaugural MIF CEO and seasoned banker Dr. John Mangudya outlined his transformation strategy for legacy SOEs. He stressed, “The MIF philosophy is simple. We invest patiently and responsibly. And we measure what matters: assets built, jobs created, families housed, and value that stays in Zimbabwe.”

Dr. Mangudya further underscored the philosophy behind the cross cluster structure.

“The cross-cluster structure is more than an accounting convenience as it reflects a deliberate theory of state investment: that portfolio companies should be judged not only by their own balance sheets but by the spillover effects they generate across the economy.”

Homelink now holds a dual mandate: as a Financial Services entity, it must “operate commercially — selling units, managing construction costs, and returning value to its shareholder.” Simultaneously, as a primary Real Estate delivery vehicle, it is tasked with contributing to national housing goals, specifically supporting the NDS2 target of one million additional housing units by 2030.

Dr. Mangudya said the  Homelink Heights as clear evidence that both these mandates can be realized: “The MIF was established to support economic growth, to safeguard the nation’s wealth, and to build a prosperous future for Zimbabwe.”

He also pointed out that Homelink Heights aligns with government policy for vertical densification and adopts eco-friendly building standards, delivering a product that is both commercially attractive and beneficial to the nation—“56 of 78 units have already been purchased off-plan.”

Speaking at the event, Homelink CEO Dr. Tawanda Matembo affirmed this trajectory, emphasizing Homelink’s extensive track record which includes developments in Prospect, Westgate, Tynwald, and Marlborough in Harare; Parklands and Homelink Park in Bulawayo; Knowe in Norton; Brockdale in Bindura; and Bushmead in Masvingo.
