CHIKOMBA Rural District Council leadership has thrown its weight behind WestProp Holdings’ landmark Chivhu Eco City project, hailing it as a gamechanger that will accelerate the council’s bid for town and ultimately city status.
In separate interviews, RDC Chairman Alderman Israel Dhikinya and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Chiwara warmly embraced the development, underscoring its potential to uplift Chivhu’s profile, create jobs, and unlock new opportunities for residents and investors.
“We welcome the Chivhu Eco City project. It will drive the growth of Chivhu and potentially secure the town status we have long aspired to achieve,” said Mr. Chiwara, adding that the council is working closely with WestProp to fasttrack regulatory approvals.
Alderman Dhikinya echoed the sentiment: “The development will uplift our bid for town status. More jobs will be created, enabling our youths to contribute to economic growth. As a council we are encouraging people to scramble for the residential plots while they are still affordable.”
With 20,000 modern residences planned across 5,000 hectares, Chivhu Eco City is designed as a vibrant urban hub integrating housing, commerce, industry, and recreation under WestProp’s “live, work, shop, and play” model. The project will stimulate trade, attract diaspora investment, and create thousands of jobs, positioning Chivhu as a magnet for growth and innovation.
WestProp Holdings Chief Executive, Mr. Ken Sharpe, confirmed that buyers under the Founders Phase will be able to begin construction before year-end a milestone signaling the birth of a new Chivhu. The surrounding farming community will also benefit from the larger market created by the city, opening new opportunities for trade and enterprise.
At its core, WestProp’s bold vision for Chivhu Eco City is more than a property development, it is the creation of a new city designed to energize the region, attract investment, and accelerate Zimbabwe’s journey toward a middleincome society by 2030 and beyond.
Mr Sharpe has indicated that the masterplan for the new city will have a university, modern hospital, shopping mall, hotels, lodges and a host of amenities that support the new urbanite.
“We are not building a township in Chivhu. We are bringing class, modernity and new standards,” he said
