Mnangagwa appoints Elizabeth Gwaunza as new Chief Justice

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has elevated Elizabeth Gwaunza to the position of Deputy Chief Justice.

Gwaunza  is a prominent Zimbabwean lawyer and jurist who serves as the Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional and Supreme Court of Zimbabwe, a position she has held since March 2018. Born in 1953, she is a trailblazer for women in the African legal sector. She was one of the first two black female law students to graduate in Zimbabwe.

Accordingly, Justice Paddington Garwe has also been appointed to the position of Deputy Chief Justice.

Garwe is a prominent Zimbabwean jurist currently serving as a substantive Justice of the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe. With a legal career spanning over four decades, he has risen through every tier of the Zimbabwean judiciary system from a magisterial assistant to the apex constitutional bench.
