The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has released ZiG6.1 billion to support ongoing roadworks across the country, with major projects such as the dualisation of the Harare-Mazowe Road among the key beneficiaries.

Zinara board chairperson George Manyaya said the funds are part of the government’s Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2), which has already rehabilitated more than 50,000 kilometres of roads and repaired about 2,000 structures.

“So far, we have disbursed ZiG6.1 billion for roadworks across the country, and funds are still available for works to continue as we move ahead to fulfil our mandate,” Manyaya said.

The Harare-Mazowe Road upgrade, one of the flagship projects under the programme, is expected to be completed by December. Engineer Alex Mashangu of Exodus & Company, the contractor on site, said work is progressing according to schedule.

“Currently, we are working on the second section from the New Parliament access road to Blueridge. That should be done by December, while works extending into Mazowe will be completed by September next year,” Mashangu said, adding that the road has been designed to last up to 15 years if properly maintained.

Transport and Infrastructural Development deputy minister Joshua Sacco said the ERRP2 aims not only to modernise the country’s road network but also to strengthen confidence in local contractors. He stressed that durable infrastructure is critical for economic growth, particularly in facilitating trade with regional partners such as Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The disbursement underscores government’s commitment to addressing the nation’s infrastructural needs through sustained and strategic funding,” Sacco said.
