Watch: US envoy to Zim hits ground running; launches Academy for Women Entrepreneurs

Business Reporter

THE United States of America (USA) envoy to Zimbabwe, Pamela Tremont has hit the ground running following the successful launch of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE).

The top diplomat recently revealed that Washington was actively encouraging American businesses to explore investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.

Taking a significant step to fulfill the promise Monday, Tremont moved to launch the AWE – a flagship program that promotes entrepreneurship through increased trade and aligns with the U.S. Strategy on Global Women’s Economic Security.

The program lays out a vision in which women and girls around the world, in all their diversity, are able to fully, meaningfully, and equally contribute to, and benefit from, economic growth and global prosperity.

“Since my arrival I have focused on how the United States can partner with the government and private sector to improve the investment climate.

“Your efforts transform informal hustles into legitimate, employment-creating ventures and will inspire others to see the potential here in Zimbabwe for business partnerships.  Your leadership can improve the success rates of other businesswomen.

“I’d like to congratulate all of you, the 2024 AWE participants.  We chose you out of almost 1,000 applicants because we see your amazing potential.  I want to wish you the best at the outset of this program.  Please give this your all and help the others in your group.  I can’t wait to see what you accomplish,” she said.

Participants will learn from U.S. partners like the U.S. Agency for African Development and business contacts as well as from local economic and business experts through mentorship, site visits, and inspirational talks.

Reputable entities like U.S. African Development Foundation, CABS and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe are supporting the amazing entrepreneurs.

Added Tremont,” AWE aims to reduce some of the uncertainty in new businesses.  The DreamBuilder curriculum from the University of Arizona’s Thunderbird School of Global Management gives all participants the confidence to oversee and make gains in all parts of their ventures.

“Beyond the online and facilitated courses, the regular meetings not only give you an opportunity to share what you know and learn from others, but it also builds your network – an essential element to success in business.”
