THE United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) have joined forces in upping the ante on taxpayers awareness.
In a statement the agency said the objective of the campaign is to foster a well-informed public by enhancing the media’s role in disseminating accurate and comprehensive information about tax laws and compliance.
“By educating editors and journalists, the campaign seeks to improve public understanding of tax obligations, reduce tax evasion and ultimately increase government revenue necessary for funding essential public services and infrastructural projects.”
The campaign kicked off with two major events: the Editors’ Forum in Bulawayo last month and the upcoming Tax and Customs Education for Journalists scheduled for June in Masvingo.
The initiative also aims to improve tax and customs reporting, media coverage, public understanding and compliance by equipping editors and journalists with comprehensive knowledge, fostering collaboration and encouraging voluntary tax compliance.
“By improving tax compliance, the campaign supports the creation of a transparent and accountable tax system, essential for sustainable economic growth and development,” UNDP said.
“By working together, we can ensure a well-informed society that understands the importance of tax compliance and its role in achieving our national and global development goals.
