Zimbabwe Republic Police records confirm that the Chinese national, Zhang Xueun shot and injured his employee over a salary dispute on Sunday 21 June at Shamrock Park.

Xueun has was arrested Sunday around 17:30 hrs and was detained at Gweru Central Police Station under DB 1105/20 and CR 74/06/20 charged with attempted murder.

Following the developments several civic society organisations are mulling to stage a demonstration over what many nationals perceive as a crime bordered along racial lines.
Commenting on the development, Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions secretary general, Japhet Moyo said chances are high that authorities will let the Chinese national walk away freely.

“The mistreatment of workers by Chinese is not new in Zimbabwe if not in the region. They seem to have a license to break the law and still get away with it. They are our new colonial masters and break our laws with impunity.

“Unions or workers should report such incidents to the police or use civil route to sue the perpetrators. The law is there and the challenges is enforcement,” he said.
