Strive Masiyiwa’s wealth surpasses Zim’s 8,8 million people’s worth

A more progressive wealth tax would raise $130 million with rates at 10% on wealth over $1 billion.

BUSINESS magnage, Strive Masiyiwa’s wealth is more than what Zimbabwe,s 8,8 million people’s worth and throughout the pandemic his wealth increased US$1,12 billion , a regional factsheet published by Oxfam International has revealed.
The respected business man has also been rated the sole billionaire in the Southern Africa nation with his net worth being placed at a US$2,3 billion
“Throughout the pandemic (beginning in mid-March 2020), his wealth increased $1.12 billion. The wealth of the sole billionaire increased 94,9% during the pandemic and he owns more than bottom 8,8 million Zimbabweans,” he said.
However, Oxfam International says an annual wealth tax on the wealthiest individual in Zimbabwe would raise US$65 milliona year with rates at 5% on wealth over $1 billion.
“A more progressive wealth tax would raise $130 million with rates at 10% on wealth over $1 billion.
An annual wealth tax at a rate of 5% applied to the wealth of the richest person in the country would raise $65 million a year, enough to increase public health expenditure by 21%,” Oxfam International said.
Born on 29 January 1961,Masiyiwa is a London-based Zimbabwean billionaire businessman and philanthropist. He is the founder and executive chairman of the international technology group Econet Global.
He has also provided scholarships to more than 250,000 young Africans over the past 20 years through his family foundation.
