THE feud between the National Employment Council (NEC) for the Food and Allied Industries has reached a crescendo on the back of reports that the Labour Ministry has dispatched two high level investigators to find a lasting solution to the widening rifts.
This follows the move by a section of disgruntled workers and trade union leaders who are stakeholders to the NEC Food which saw them chucking out of office the General Secretary,Malini Mpango.
The NEC Food offices remains under key and lock as the disgruntled faction insists on meticulous investigations and Forensic Audits before normalcy returns.
He allegedly embezzled funds from the proceeds of the organisation’s properties sales worth over US$1,2 million without following due procedure as well as sidelining key officials mandated.
Other accusations from the disgruntled membership includes allegations of violating the organisation’s Constitution by allowing the NEC’s councillors extension of the term of office in direct contradiction of the Constitution.
The disgruntled stakeholders have also questioned why the NEC went to the extent of hiring two accountans specificall for the purposes of handling a transaction for the sale of the NEC’s properties despite the union having a fully fledged Accounts department.
The Food Federation and Allied Workers Union (FFAWUZ) secretary general , Runesu Dzimiri who is a part of the team spearheading the cleansing exercise at the NEC Food share some developments which have so far taken place.
“The NEC’s business continues on the pause mode. The Labour Ministry has indicated the desire to intervene and resolve the crisis. As of Tuesday January 30 2024, two government investigators were deployed to the NEC. We hope the investigations will continue and leave no stone unturned.
“To our surprise Mpango and his loyalists team have not taken any step to rope in the authorities which to us is a clear indication of that they are fully aware that the net is closing in on them.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to urge all stakeholders to hold their peace and remain clam until this important exercise we are yearning for is completed. There is no need to hurry and resume business before addressing the unbearable rot at the institution,” he said.
