ZANU PF Secretary for War Veterans Affairs Douglas Mahiya has described the late Zimbabwean Ambassador to Mozambique and Eswatini, Victor Matemadanda, as a true patriot and revolutionary.
Matemadanda died at the age of 66 on Saturday
No official statement has been issued as yet with regards to the cause of his death.
Mahiya, who worked closely with the late former Defence Deputy Minister and ex-ZANU PF National Political Commissar, described Matemadanda as a fearless leader who was never afraid to take risks in the line of duty.
“He often told us that when you make a mistake, it is confirmation that you are working hard. Those who do not make mistakes are those who are not working or are not industrious,” said Mahiya.
He said Zimbabwe had lost a gallant fighter whose contribution to the country’s political development and liberation ideals would never be forgotten.
“Zimbabwe has lost a gallant fighter. Together, we moved the wheel of the revolution forward because we introduced Zimbabwe into a new political era,” he said.
Matemadanda died on Saturday evening, and the cause of death had not yet been confirmed at the time of publication.
Victor Matemadanda (3 March 1960 – 20 June 2026) was a prominent Zimbabwean politician, liberation war veteran, and diplomat. At the time of his passing, he was serving as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini.
He was a core ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and played a major role in the country’s modern political transitions.
He passed away at the West End Clinic in Harare after falling ill following a meal with his family.
