Family of five now requires $25 935 per month

THE cost of living for an ordinary family of five rose again in the month of February 2021 to record $25 935, the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) has reported.
The agency Thursday reported that the Food Poverty Line (FPL) for one person in February 2021 was $3 934 while the Total Consumption Poverty Line (TCPL) for one person stood at $5 187 in February 2021.
Based on the above figures and multiplying them by five people who normally constitute an average family in Zimbabwe, the total figure now required stands at $25 935.
“The poverty datum lines vary by province as prices vary from place to place. The differences are explained by differences in average prices in the provinces,” said ZIMSTAT.

The month on month inflation rate in February 2021 was 3.45 % shedding 1.98 % on January 2021 rate of 5.43%.
The year on year inflation rate for the month of February 2021 as measured by all items CPI stood at 321 %.
The blended CPI for month on month inflation rate in February 2021 was 0.71 % shedding 2.05 % on the January 2021 rate of 2.76 %.
“The year on year rate annual percentage change for the month of February 2021 as measured by all items blended CPI stood at 162.9 %,” Zimstat said.
