‘Defiant’ Anglican Church says St Faith’s School headmaster must be ‘fired’

By Staff Writer

THE Anglican Diocese of Manicaland has pleaded with the Primary and Secondary Education Ministry to urgently facilitate the transfer of St Faith’s High School Headmaster, Arnold Makamba’s urgent transfer from the school.

The once reputable institution has been mired in controversy following a massive demonstration by the school’s students who recently marched for over 13 kilometres protesting against the demand for payment of a Mission Fund to the tune of US$600 which was over and above the normal fees.

So dire is the situation at the institution which has left already struggling parents in desperation as to how they will foot the huge bill in the face of pressing economic challenges and eroded incomes.
However, the defiant church authorities have not expeditiously resolved the matter as they have blamed the school headmaster for inciting the demonstration.
In a letter dated February 8 2024 addressed to Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Torerai Moyo, the church authorities have demanded a fast tracked transfer of the school’s headmaster.
“The above matter and the enclosures herein of various letters we have written to your offices in Makoni District and provincial education director for Manicaland refers,” the letter read.
The school authorities have even gone to the extent of blaming Minister Moyo for not actioning their request arguing the relations with Makamba are no longer workable.

“We refer to the findings of investigations by your own ministry but up to date no action has been taken as we address you the school is over enrolled for the facilities available posing a health time bomb and our efforts to remedy the situation have been rebuffed by him.

“We can no longer work with him and our request is for his immediate transfer from our school”.
The suspect Makamba hired the thugs to attack Anglican Diocese of Manicaland leaders led by Bishop Eric Ruwona and cause confusion at the school. and also accuse him of conniving with the school development committee (SDC) members to depose the authority which runs the affairs of the school.
