CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Adv Nelson Chamisa says he will scrap the Continuous Assessment of Learning Activities (CALA) during his first 100 days in office.

The new curriculum earned former Education Minister, Lazarus Dokora in 2015 grave unpopularity as it entailed learners to undertake ‘tormenting’ projects as part of the coursework required for the exams final outcome.

Some citizens have seen a lucrative opportunity to make money as they now charge a fee to undertake the CALA exercises on behalf of learners.

The curriculum also saw the introduction of the National Pledge which was eventually declared unconstitutional.

Presenting the opposition party’s 2023 Elections Manifesto in Bulawayo Tuesday, Chamisa said the component will be removed during his first 100 days in office bringing a sigh of relief to the country’s students, parents and teachers.

“In the first 100 days in office, CCC will restore sanity to the education system by removing the CALA curriculum and dignity to teachers. Free and Universal Primary Education and primary healthcare,” reads the manifesto in part.

The opposition party also committed to remove bond notes and to stabilize the economy by releasing all political prisoners and restoring dignity, rights, hope and respect to all citizens.

The blueprint also committed to set stakeholder turnaround timelines for all public service, parastatals, municipalities, applications processes and freeing of the airwaves and allowing cheaper internet like Star-Link.

Executive mayors and devolution will be reintroduced over as well as de-politicization of the state, government, Parastatals and Councils.

“The new administration will revisit border paperwork for passengers, vehicles, and goods, especially RSA, Bots, Zambia, reduce cross border charges. Stop leakages and illicit financial flows. New laws and mechanisms to deal with corruption.

“War will be declared on drug cartels and barons. Title deeds to urbanites and all farm land, new farmers and massive infrastructure rehabilitation and projects. Fix broken politics. Decisively deal with violence, intolerance and hate,” says the Manifesto.

The opposition also aims to restore Zimbabwe in the family of nations and normalising relations with all key nations and countries and debt resolution.
