Citizens leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has rejected the idea of waiting until 2030 for Zimbabwe’s next elections, insisting that citizens must prepare for polls at the constitutionally prescribed time.
In a statement issued on Monday, Chamisa called for the strengthening of the Citizens Movement while dismissing the 2030 election timeline as unacceptable.
“We are building the strongest and solidest Citizens’ Movement ever. And we must have elections when they are due. Not this 2030 nonsense,” Chamisa said.
The opposition leader said his movement had the experience and organisational capacity required to mount another political challenge, drawing confidence from its previous electoral campaigns.
“We have the capacity. We have done it before. And we will do it again,” he declared.
Chamisa also used the statement to rally citizens behind what he described as a movement driven by ordinary Zimbabweans and centred on their participation in shaping the country’s political future.
“By the Citizens. For the Citizens. To the Citizens,” he said.
He urged supporters and other citizens to unite behind the movement, portraying collective action as key to achieving political change.

The opposition leader concluded his message by inviting Zimbabweans to join the Citizens Movement, using the hashtags “#TheNew” and “#FreshStart” to reinforce his call for a new political direction.
Chamisa’s remarks come amid continued political debate over Zimbabwe’s electoral timetable and the push by opposition forces for elections to be held when they are constitutionally due rather than being deferred to 2030.
