THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has blocked a demonstration that was set to be convened to protest against derailing Saviour Kasukuwere’s Candidacy in the 2023 Plebiscite in Masvingo urban.
Kasukuwere is currently awaiting a Supreme Court ruling on the appeal he filed against a High Court ruling thwarting his Presidential bid candidacy on the basis that he was not ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe as prescribed at law.
The complainant in the matter is Lovedale Mangwana .
However, latest developments are that the Zimbabwe Elections Commission (ZEC) can forge ahead with the printing of the ballot paper with Kasukuwere’s details included.
In a bid to demonstrate against the perceived ‘cooked up’ delays, one Talent Chivange approached the police in Masvingo notifying of his intentions to stage a demonstration against efforts to block Kasukuwere’s candidature.
But in response, ZRP’s Regulating Authority for Masvingo Central District , Chief Superintended S. Dube blocked the demonstration.
“Reference is made to your notification dated 21/7/23 that was brought to my attention on 24 July 2023 with above subject matter .
“Please be advised that your notification does not comply with provisions of Maintenance Of Peace and Order Act Chapter 11:23 and therefore the demonstration is not sanctioned,” he said.
