A renowned Nigerian investigative journalist, David Hundeyin says he endured a 10 hours long detention at the Robert Mugabe International Airport before being deported despite being in possession of proper documentation.
The development has left the media fraternity and human rights activists in Zimbabwe amid and beyond shell shocked amid concerns as to why outdated colonial laws are being used to block critical voices from traveling around the continent.
Posting on Twitter the investigative journalist revealed that he was finally processed for deportation to Ethiopia.
“I was processed for removal from their country and locked in a tiny room but I have heard nothing from anyone for several hours alongside a lady from Uganda also a visa free country.,I have been locked in a room with no windows or toilet plus a bottle of pee on the floor,” he said.
He said authorities at the airport demanded a Visa despite the fact Hundeyin was travelling with a document showing a Visa free relationship.
“Please someone out there who is actually in charge of something should let me go so I can be on my merry way I ‘m not interested in visiting Zimbabwe anymore ,” the journalist said in an earlier tweet.
