ISLAMIC Republic of Iran President, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi one day state visit to Zimbabwe ended on a high note amid calls for the African nation to believe in God and harness natural resources to bust ‘selfish-colonialistic’ US sanctions.
The Iranian leader arrived in Zimbabwe Thursday on a day’s visit where he endorsed several MoUs with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The two nations believe they share commonalities dating back to the war against colonization and have also endured the impact of US imposed sanctions.
Raisi’s visit is part of his three-country tour of Africa. He has been to Kenya and was expected to proceed to Uganda Thursday after concluding his brief tour in Harare.
Speaking in Harare, Raisi condemned US for continuously targeting specific nations using the sanctions as a “pseudo military” option.
He challenged Western nations to embrace every community if they are truly the international community.
“We believe that the Asian Continent is important, The US continent is important at the same time there are a lot of capacities in the African continent .It is a very important continent with numerous natural resources and most importantly the skilled and talented youth .
“We are against unilateralism. We are against sanctions and we believe that sanction is an instrument used by the US more like a military option against other nations,” he said.
Raisi said co-operation on common grounds must find room between the like-minded nations underscoring the need to harness the Godly bestowed natural and human resources to better the lives of their people.
“Our nations are suppressed but the solution is to trust in God and our internal capabilities in order to move on the path of development and progress.
“Following the history of the revolution, the people of Zimbabwe are feeling that they have a lot of commonalities with the people of Iran first of all to believe in God, fight US colonization and pursue the truth and righteousness and on these grounds, the people of Zimbabwe have commonalities with people of Iran and can stand together and pursue common objectives,” added Raisi.
