Warriors-linked coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojević is on the verge of landing a new job in Ethiopia after turning down an approach from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The Serbian tactician has opted to return to Ethiopian Premier League giants Saint George SC, 16 years after his first spell at the club. He is expected to be officially unveiled on Friday, August 14.
Sredojević had emerged as one of the leading candidates for the Warriors head coach position, which has been vacant since Marian Marinica resigned in April.
However, with the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set to begin in September, the experienced coach has instead chosen to take up a long-term project with Saint George.
“I love Zimbabwe, I love Zimbabwean football; however, at this point that is mission impossible. Tomorrow [Friday], I will be announced as head coach on a long-term basis at one club in Africa,” Sredojević told FARPost.
The 56-year-old has extensive experience on the African continent, having previously coached the likes of Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, Orlando Pirates and Zamalek.
ZIFA is now understood to be considering Belgian Tom Saintfiet, Spanish coach Ramon Catala, German Torsten Spittler, Portugal’s Luis Goncalves and interim coach Kaitano Tembo for the Warriors job.
