Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has warned against the continued sprouting of illegal tuckshops in and around the central business district and in densely populated suburbs, saying the full wrath of the law will be applied.
Mafume also warned councillors and officials against leaking council documents, saying the Official Secrets Act will be invoked against perpetrators.
He said that while some structures can be regularised, others cannot.
Mafume added that Parliament makes laws, while the government issues statutory instruments, stressing that the law must be followed. He said those seeking change should engage the government.
He said as long as the current laws stand, council will enforce them and act against illegal structures in Harare, following all due legal processes where necessary.
