Mnangagwa orders by elections to be held on March 26

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has ordered relevant authorities to activate their systems in preparation of the holding of by-election on March 26.
The directive contained in Statutory 2 of 2022 brings to an end the much awaited conclusion on the fate of vacant seats due to death of legislators among other causes.
“Now therefore , under and by virtue of the powers vested in the President as afore said, I do, by this proclamation : fix Saturday the 26th day of March, 2022, as the day on which a poll shall be taken if a poll becomes necessary in terms of section 46(17)(c) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13],” Mnangagwa said.
In terms of section 129(1)(k) and section 159 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, as read with section 39(1), of the Electoral Act elections will be held in the following constituencies:
Pumula, Nkulumane, Epworth, Glen Norah, Harare Central, High fi eld East, High fi eld West, Kuwadzana East, Kuwadzana, Mufakose, St Marys, Glen View North, Kambuzuma, Harare East, Dangamvura-Chikanga, Mutasa South, Marondera Central, Marondera East, Murewa South, Chivi South.
Other places include , Mwenezi East, Binga North, Tsholotsho South, Mkoba, Kwekwe, Mbizo, Mberengwa South and Gokwe Central.
“The above have become vacant by reason of members of the National Assembly having ceased to belong to a political party which they were members when elected to the National Assembly, by reason of the death of the members of the National Assembly and by reason of appointment of a member to another post,” Mnangagwa said in the SI.
