Human rights lawyer Passmore Nyakureba has landed a top post at the National Blood Service of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) after being elected board chairperson during an annual meeting held in Harare last week.

The Mutare-based lawyer replaced renowned legal practitioner Rodgers Matsikidze.
Nyakureba was elected to the NBSZ board together with pastor Elliot Mandaza from Bulawayo, Salachi Naidoo from Masvingo, professor Takafira Mduluza, Tatenda Muronda Mangoma and Nelia Kuwanda.

In an interview with NewsDay yesterday, Nyakureba said he was ready to serve the NBSZ board by assuring sufficient blood supply in the country.

“I am happy to serve NBSZ and contribute to the vital work of ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply for Zimbabwe. I want to thank all the people who have shown confidence in me to steer the ship,” he said.

“I will champion good governance and continue from where the previous chairperson left. I will also serve for one term and hand over to another person to steer the ship and at the same time I will be hoping to always increase blood stocks in the country.”
Nyakureba served as a councillor for the Law Society of Zimbabwe from 2020 to 2022 and chaired the Marymount Teachers College advisory council.

He is a partner at Maunga Maanda & Associates, trading as Commercial Law and Human Rights Chambers.
