ZTA puts unregistered operators on notice

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has given tourism businesses until February 28 to complete their registration or face potential closure as it intensifies enforcement of industry regulations.
In a statement released on Friday, the ZTA announced that a nationwide inspection campaign targeting unregistered operators will commence on March 1, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
The initiative is aimed at restoring order to the rapidly expanding tourism sector, protecting consumers from unregulated operators, and promoting fair competition among compliant businesses. Authorities emphasized that this move is part of broader efforts to uphold Zimbabwe’s standing as a top travel destination.
According to Section 36 of the Tourism Act [Chapter 14:20], the ZTA reminded all tourism-related businesses, including designated tourist facilities, that registration with the authority is not only required but a legal obligation.
“Failure to register will result in the closure of unregistered facilities,” the authority stated.
The ZTA also warned the public against using unregistered tourism services and encouraged citizens to report any businesses operating without proper registration.
