ZIMBABWE Republic Police has once again blocked Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) rally which was scheduled to take place this weekend.
The opposition outfit has suffered similar such blows in the last years in what analysts believe to be a ploy to silence dissent ahead of the 2023 plebiscite.
Responding to the CCC request to hold a constituency rally at Rowa Grounds on 11 February 2023 in Mutare Rural District, ZRP shot down the proposal.
“This office acknowledges receipt of your notice on the above subject. Your convening notice is not compliant with the law. The intended venue is also lined up with sporting activities by local football clubs who usually use the same facility,” said ZRP.
The police also claimed that some property owners are against the holding of the rally at their door steps.
“This office perceives the situation on the ground to be unfavorable for the holding of the rally and therefore it cannot proceed,” added ZRP.
