Zim urges Israeli-Hamas forces to exercise restraint as war escalates, calls for UN intervention

ZIMBABWE has urged the warring parties of the Israeli-Hamas forces to exercise restraint amid an escalating war which has so far left 1 000 people dead.
Conflict between the two nations escalated in recent days worsening one of the world’s longest wars which historians believe was largely triggered by Israel’s denial to surrender land belonging to Palestine.
Several Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have laid bare the apartheid and repressive government style of administration being perpetrated by the Israeli forces following years of lobbying global organs like the United Nations to intervene.
Over the weekend Palestinian authorities bemoaned the struggles their citizens continue to face at a time when the international community has done so little to render meaningful assistance.
In a statement Harare said it is closely following the developments in the Middle East and is deeply concerned at the ongoing fighting between Hamas and the Israeli army which has left more than 1000 people dead while several others have been displaced or injured.
“Equally disturbing is the indiscriminate targeting of civilians especially women and children and the disproportionate use of force. The Government of Zimbabwe urges all sides to exercise maximum restraint and allow humanitarian workers access to the injured and displaced.
“We convey our deepest condolences to all those who lost their loved ones and wish the injured speedy recovery,” the GoZ said.
The GoZ stressed that such tragic developments, once again highlight the urgent need for the revival of the political process aimed at finding a durable and just solution which respects the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people as envisaged under the United Nations Resolutions.
