Zim doubles medal tally at 2025 African Youth Games

ZIMBABWE concluded the 2025 ANOCA African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, on a high, securing a total of 21 medals, more than double the 10 medals won at last year’s edition.
The Games ended spectacularly, with rowing stealing the spotlight on the final day, as athletes competed against the breathtaking backdrop of Luanda’s seaside, capping off a memorable outing for Team Zimbabwe.
What a finale it was, Guy Annandale and Tungamirai Chinhamo made waves in the boys’ doubles, clinching bronze, while Paidamwoyo Chamunorwa and Tawananyasha Chakona rocked the girls’ doubles, bagging silver.
Chamunorwa then went on to win silver in the girls’ singles, with Chinhamo following suit in the boys’ singles.
The mixed doubles duo of Annandale and Chakona rounded off the medal haul with a bronze.
These five medals from Rowing propelled Zimbabwe to a record-breaking 21 medals, comprising three gold, six silver, and 12 bronze.
As the team basks in the glow of their success, eyes are already on the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games.
“The tournament was a much-needed preparatory platform for our athletes, and we’re thrilled with the performances. For some athletes, it was their first major outing, and while they did not quite make the podium, we have high hopes for Dakar 2026. This is just the beginning,” Team Zimbabwe Chef de Mission, Charmaine Chamboko said.
The Games’ closing ceremony is scheduled for this Saturday, bringing the continental youth sporting event to a celebratory conclusion.
