Tshabangu now demands CCC’s funds under Political Finance Act

By Staff Writer

‘Self-imposed’ Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu has now upped the game following his recent letter of demand to receive funds meant for the opposition party under the Political Finance Act (PFA).

In a November 6 2023 letter directed to the Justice Minister, Tshabangu placed his demand for funding as a matter of urgency.

“I am writing in terms of Section 3 (1) as read with Section 3 (3) of the Political Parties Finance Act Chapter 2:11) to request the statutory allocation and disbursement of the funding that is due to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) political party which participated in the 2023 harmonised elections in which it garnered enough seats to qualify for the funds.

“Accordingly we kindly request your good offices to process and disburse the allocation that is due to our party in terms of the Act,” he said in the letter.

If approved, the development will see CCC losing out for the second time since the inception of the Second Republic after having failed to access the funds since 2019 when the courts ruled in favour of the controversial  Douglas Mwonzora who was declared the legitimate MDC-A leader.

Political analysts have since dismissed the ploy by Tshabangu describing it as a broad strategy to frustrate the country’s most vibrant opposition party.
