ZIMBABWE senior men’s football team was awarded a US$ 6,500 bonus each by President Emerson Mnangagwa for qualifying for the 2025 AFCON finals.

The team paid a courtesy call at State House on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe sealed its qualification for the 2025 African football jamboree last month after finishing second in AFCON Qualifiers Group J.

In his address to the players, President Mnangagwa applauded the Warriors for the achievement.

“I extend my hearty congratulations to each member of the team, the coaching staff as well as everyone who contributed to this incredible journey.

“Your dedication, your hard work, and your unwavering spirit of patriotism have brought honour to our beloved mother country Zimbabwe,” said Mnangagwa.

The bonuses come a week after the government pledged to give the Warriors US$1 million to use for the 2025 AFCON finals preparations.

Zimbabwe will be marking its sixth appearance at the AFCON tournament, having marked its debut in 2004 in Tunisia.

Added Mnangagwa, “Going forward I urge our nation to rally behind the Warriors, as they embark on this exciting journey carrying the flag of our great motherland Zimbabwe.

“Zimbabwe here at home and those in diaspora, I encourage you to make requisite arrangements to fill the stadiums to cheer and support our players.”

Other teams from the Southern Africa region which will be competing at the 2025 AFCON are South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, DRC and Angola.
