Sgt Maisiri corrupt tendencies spill over to CID HQ

THE Kadoma Business Association (KBA) has filed a letter of complaint against Sgt Detective Hardlife Maisiri.

In a letter to Officer Commanding Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters dated September 9, 2024, Kadoma Business Association (KBA) bitterly complains of Detective Sergeant Hardline Maisiri’s alleged corrupt and unprofessional conduct, which is soiling the good reputation and standing of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

“We wish to bring to your urgent attention serious allegations of misconduct against Detective Sergeant Hardlife Maisiri, who is currently attached to CID Property in Kadoma, having previously served in Kadoma CID Minerals.

“We understand that ZRP as an institution is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and it is with this in mind that we respectively lodge this complaint.

“It has come to our attention that Detective Sergeant Maisiri has been engaging in corrupt activities, particularly extorting money from members of our business community, with a notable focus on those involved in the mining sector,” wrote KBA secretary, Edwin Vandira.

The business lobby group further alleges that while stationed at CID Minerals, Maisiri claimed to be a runner for the Officer Commanding ZRP Kadoma District, a statement which exerted undue pressure on business operators to comply with his demands out of fear of reprisal.

Now, the business community wants the suspected rogue cop to be shunted out of Kadoma to pave way for a full-scale probe.

“Many affected members of the business community are prepared to come forward and provide evidence of these activities.

“However, there is widespread fear that if they do so while Detective Sergeant Maisiri remains in Kadoma, he may fabricate charges against them as a means of retaliation. This concern is preventing members from freely exercising their right to report the misconduct they have experienced.

“In light of this, we humbly request Detective Sergeant Maisiris immediate transfer from Kadoma. We firmly believe that this action would facilitate an open and transparent process where business people can report their complaints without fear of retribution,” Vandira further wrote.

He stated that ZRP stands to gain from Maisiri’s removal inorder to restore confidence within the business community, demonstrating that Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga does not tolerate any form of corruption within his ranks.

“We are confident that the integrity of ZRP will only be strengthened by such a transfer, and the institution will not suffer any loss from his relocation.

“On the contrary, it will serve to reinforce the public’s trust in the police forces commitment to serving the people of Zimbabwe without bias or exploitation.”

The urgent request, KBA noted, is critical to maintain the safety and stability of the business environment in the gold-rich city infamous for machete-wielding artisanal miners derogatorily known as “Makorokoza/ Scavengers’.

Efforts to get comment from ZRP national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi were fruitless by the time of publishing.
