President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed his cousin Martin Rushwaya as the new Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, after sending long-time bureaucrat Misheck Sibanda on retirement.
Rushwaya, who will be turning 62 on December 31, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as Defence secretary as well as Sibanda’s deputy.
The retirement of Misheck Sibanda was a result of new regulations that require civil servants appointed on pensionable terms after May 1, 1992, to retire at the age of 60.
The Public Service Commission said that those employed before 1992, including Sibanda and Rushwaya, can continue in their roles until the age of 65.
