PARIRENYATWA Group of Hospitals (PGH) has dismissed a message which went viral on social media platforms alleging there were no doctors to attend to patients over the just ended holdiays.
A message suspected to have originated from a frustrated citizen who travelled to the major referral institution exposed the dire state of of affairs at the institution.
” Evening colleagues, there’s a disastrous situation here at Parerenyatwa hospital. There are virtually no doctors and patients are stranded. Some of the patients arrived at 6:00am and have not yet been attended to. I have brought my little niece from Chegutu after being referred to from the district hospital.
“I arrived around 4:00pm and just milling around like everyone else with nurses moving all over but no doctor to be seen. No patients are being treated or admitted. This is chaos in the extreme,” the patient said in a statement.
But contacted for comment and challenged to explain the situation at hand, PGH spokesperson Terrence Mautsi dismissed the allegations, arguing that normal business operations carried the day at the institution.
” The allegations that there are virtually no doctors is false. Main Area 65 patients were seen from 0600-2000 .During the same time five patients were discharged home with the rest being sent to different specialties.
“Information at hand indicates that at the Resuscitation unit ,10 patients were seen ,one was admitted, one was discharged after the first patient pt came in at 1815hrs.Further, at the physicians bay, 33 patients were seen with 27 discharged home, three admitted and the other three attended,” he said.
Mautsi said in ward A1, a total 48 patients were seen, two admissions were recorded , 40 discharges and six on the spot attendances.
He added , “Those are the statistics. While we strive to improve patient waiting time, we are saddened that sometimes alarming messages of this nature are put out without engagement and verification. We remain loyal to the mission.”
