No National Heroes status for the late Ambassador Tomana; Govt offers state assisted funeral

CONTRARY to earlier speculation on the possibility for the late Ambassador Johannes Tomana National Heroes’ status conferment, the government has effectively watered down such hopes instead announcing that only state assisted funeral will be accorded.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo and former Attorney-General, Tomana died on August 6 2023 after complaining of stomach pain.
He reportedly started feeling unwell he visited his home in Honde Valley, Manicaland.
Tomana worked for several years in government before he became Zimbabwe’s ambassador to DRC.
Burial arrangements are being arranged by the family.
In a condolence message, President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended heartfelf condolences to the Tomana family “for the untimely passing on of a generous, hardworking, loving caring husband and father.|
He also urged the family to derive solace from the assurance that those who knew and worked with him share their grief , and shall always be inspired by his untiring efforts in serving government and the nation towards the attainment of Vision 2030 .
“In recognition of his short but impactful contribution to the economic development of his country, His Excellency the President has directed that Amb Tomana be accorded a State – assisted funeral,” a message signed by the Chief Secretary To The President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda said in part.
