Nine vie for Nkulumane By-Election

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has confirmed that all logistical arrangements are in place for the Nkulumane by-election scheduled for this Saturday.
Nine candidates are set to contest the by-election as residents of Nkulumane prepare to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of Honourable Desire Moyo in a road traffic accident in October.
Deputy Chairperson of ZEC, Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, said the Commission is prepared to conduct a transparent and orderly election.
“The Nkulumane constituency has a voter population of 22 833. So, in terms of the law, we printed 23 500 to accommodate the contingency measure to counter for mistakes during voting. Printing was done by a Zimbabwean company. We did publish that information with the local press. All the material has been delivered, and the human capital is ready to roll, and we want to run a seamless election. We want our elections to be observed by independent observers, accreditation continues, and we want to shower praise on candidates for running a violence-free campaign,” he said.
Nine candidates, including ZANU PF’s Freedom Murechu, CCC’s Mothusi Ndlovu, Vivian Sibanda of ZAPU, Independent candidates Ester Excellia Zitha, Rodney Jele, Mbuso Fuzwayo, MDC T’s Ethel Sibanda, EFF Zimbabwe’s Alson Moyo and Nompilo Ncube Malaba of the Zimbabwe African National Congress, are vying for the legislative seat.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Honourable Desire Moyo in a road traffic accident in October this year.
Polling stations will open at seven in the morning and close at seven in the evening.
