The first telemedicine virtual hospital was launched at Precabe Farm in Kwekwe by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa—a historic milestone marking the country’s entry into digitally enabled healthcare. Just days later, another commissioning ceremony in Chiweshe at Kakora Maria Theresa was personally led by Dr Amai Mnangagwa, the visionary behind this initiative, bringing together senior Government leadership and sector stakeholders including Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera, Deputy Dingimuzi Phuti, and NetOne Group CEO Eng. Raphael Mushanawani. These gatherings were more than ceremonial; they were defining national moments, symbolizing unity, shared purpose, and an unwavering commitment to transforming lives.
What began as a daring vision has now become a nationwide movement. With nearly 40 telemedicine sites operational across Zimbabwe, partnerships between NetOne, ZimSmart Villages, and other innovators are bringing healthcare directly to the communities that need it most. NetOne’s robust network ensures seamless virtual consultations, timely medical guidance, and critical services—removing distance as a barrier to care. True to the philosophy of prevention and empowerment, the initiative also invests in community health promoters—Vadhumeni veUtano—who serve as frontline champions of wellness. From blood pressure checks to blood sugar screenings, they identify risks early, foster awareness, and nurture a culture of proactive health. This is a model that is inclusive, sustainable, and deeply rooted in local communities—a reflection of leadership that listens, acts, and inspires.
The initiative’s innovation goes beyond health. By integrating mobile financial services, communities are not only cared for—they are empowered economically.
