THE government has warned media platforms fanning baseless hate speech against Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The two have been reported to be immersed in a nasty fallout emanating from the third term being advanced by Mnangagwa’s supporters while his second in charge- who is vying for presidency post Mnangagwa’s departure is allegedly opposing the bid.
But speaking to the state run weekly mouthpiece this week, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere downplayed the existence of any rift within the presidium hinting such lies are being peddled by errant media platforms.
“Of late we have identified a number of media institutions that have been providing a platform for treason, a platform for defamatory, insightful and inflammatory statements. In terms of the Constitution of Zimbabwe , the freedom of expression is guaranteed by the freedom to violate other people’s rights is not part of the constitution’s process,” he said.
Muswere said the freedom of Information Act, the Zimbabwe Media Commission Act and amendments that are currently taking place in the Parliament of Zimbabwe , in terms of the Broadcasting Services Act , and many other structural instruments in order to ensure that the supremacy of the people continues and that democratic structures and democratic Government in terms of delivery continues to be supported through democratic processes.
“There is no noise in the cockpit and as the New Dispensation we will continue to democratically roll out many projects in order to empower the people of Zimbabwe as a political party and in the August 2023 elections by the overwhelming majority of the people of Zimbabwe.
“His excellency the President continues to roll out democratic inclusive programmes projects now numbering more than 8 000,” he added.
