A 45-year-old man from Lupane District in Matabeleland North Province has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted of raping a six-year-old girl.
The Hwange Magistrates’ Court heard that in October last year, the offender intercepted the child while she was walking home from school.
He forced the girl into his scotch cart, where the abuse took place.
Despite being threatened not to speak out, the child bravely reported the matter to her mother upon reaching home, which led to the arrest of the perpetrator.
The court handed down the 18-year custodial sentence following conviction.
