PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing the Beijing Declaration for inclusivity and sustainable development.

He was speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira at the High-Level Meeting on the 30th Anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The high-level meeting saw President Mnangagwa highlighting that progressive legislation and policies have empowered women in Zimbabwe in various sectors of the economy.

The country has long domesticated the UN Charter and further guaranteed the right to equal dignity and opportunities as enshrined in Section 80 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“Zimbabwe is focusing on addressing poverty to ensure equitable and inclusive economic empowerment, contributing to Vision 2030 and expanding equal access to digital technologies to advance
Sustainable Development Goals. Efforts are being underpinned by improved gender data generation, sustainable financing, and mainstreaming of adolescent girls and youth rights.

“A robust road map is accelerating implementation, supported by strengthened coordination mechanisms. Zimbabwe stands ready to work with all partners to ensure that the vision of the Beijing declaration continues to translate into tangible outcomes for present and future generations,” he said.

With 80 years of existence, the United Nations has made significant progress in addressing gender equality.

The UN set aside September 22, 2025, to discuss progress and challenges faced in addressing gender issues.
